• Mark Addis • Series: Tell Me Who You Are
What does it mean that Jesus called himself "the bread of life"? In John 6:35, Senior Pastor Mark Addis opens a seven-week series on the I AM statements of Jesus, showing why bread, not dessert, is exactly the right image for what our souls actually need. Sermon Title: I Am the Bread of Life Speaker: Senior Pastor Mark Addis Scripture: John 6:35 Series: Tell Me Who You Are Recorded: August 9, 2026 Church: New Hope Community Church, Clovis, California A man books a transatlantic cruise, spends every last dollar on the ticket, and spends the entire voyage locked in his cabin eating stale crackers, never knowing the meals were included all along. It's a picture that cuts close. Most of us are doing the same thing with our souls, grinding through the week on career wins, curated reputations, and endless distractions, while a full feast sits waiting. In John 6, the crowd chasing Jesus across the Sea of Galilee wanted more free bread. Jesus wanted to give them something else entirely. Pastor Mark traces the confrontation between Jesus and the crowd, from the miracle of the loaves to the synagogue in Capernaum, unpacking why the Greek word artos, the coarse daily staple that kept ordinary people alive, is exactly the word Jesus chose. He also examines the weight of "Ego eimi," the divine name from the burning bush, and what it means that Jesus attached it to bread. The work God requires, it turns out, isn't a list of tasks. It's belief. New Hope Community Church is a Bible teaching church in Clovis, California. We gather for worship every Sunday at 8:00, 9:30, and 11:00 AM at 4620 E. Nees Ave, Clovis, CA 93611.
